Mattress and Box Spring

No matter how many new sleep products emerge on the scene there are some of us who like to stick to an old-fashioned mattress and box spring. I find that my bed is perfectly comfortable. I have no aches and pains in the morning and I get a good night’s sleep every evening.

Many people are looking for the bigger and better thing but the best option is commonly the old standard when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. We tend to forget that we need to replace our mattresses every eight or ten years. If someone is having trouble with his mattress and box spring it may just be time to get a new model.

You don’t have to replace both the mattress and box spring. You can opt to simply replace the mattress. This will save you a lot of money but there are some drawbacks to doing this. If you are fussy about matching items you may want to buy the mattress and box spring as a set.

I found that I could not find a box spring to match my outdated mattress. This was really disappointing because I knew that the spring was in perfect shape. I was a little annoyed that the mattress and box spring didn’t go together but I wasn’t about to waste a perfectly good item just to make sure that things match.

When I saw that the sheets and quilt covered everything anyway, I kind-of laughed at myself about the whole thing. I almost spent extra money to make sure that my mattress and box spring matched and no one was going to see it anyway. That would have been a real waste of money.

However, there are some who argue that the box spring needs to be replaced when you replace the top. The argument is that the bottom gets as much wear and tear over the years as the top unit. This is a valid point but I didn’t see the wear and tear on my product. There was really no need for a replacement.

If you aren’t fussy about matching things that are ultimately covered with linens and blankets you may want to look for a mattress and box spring that don’t go together. Many manufacturers will run specials on miss-matched items. You can find a brand new set for a little more than buying the mattress alone.
