Inflatable Aerobed

My mother bought an inflatable aerobed off of the tv and I borrowed it over the summer to use on a camping trip. I have to say that I was very disappointed. The inflatable aerobed appears to be very convenient. You simply open a flap on the side and turn on a battery powered motor to fill the inflatable aerobed with air in just a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, this flap is not as secure and airtight as it should be and air slowly leaked out throughout the night. I woke up around three o'clock in the morning and my butt was touching the floor. The inflatable aerobed had lost most of its air and was only partially inflated.

The commercials for the inflatable aerobed claim that it is a great thing to have lying around the house for whenever unexpected company arrives or you simply need another place for someone to sleep. If I was a guest at someone's home and they provided me with an inflatable aerobed to sleep on I would be very aggravated. I was not able to get a decent night's sleep on the inflatable aerobed that we used on the camping trip. It simply could not hold enough air to remain comfortable.

The inflatable aerobed is not very sturdy and I do not believe that it will hold up well over time. You should seriously consider this before buying one because if you only get one or two uses out of it, it may not be such a great deal after all. If you have a decent sleeping bag that provides some thickness or cushioning, you will be fine and you do not need to go out and buy anything inflatable. I have gone on hundreds of camping trips and I prefer to bring a nice, thick sleeping bag instead of carting around several other things to sleep on. If you are backpacking, then you completely understand the importance of packing lightly.

Instead of buying an inflatable aerobed off of TV, I suggest that you buy a cheap roll of those foam egg carton-looking pads. You can find those foam pads at any Wal-Mart or Kmart and they are very cheap. If you take one on a camping trip or similar excursion you will not worry about it getting dirty or damaged because it will be easy and affordable to replace unlike the inflatable aerobed.
