Canopy Bed

When I was a little girl, one of the things I wanted more than anything else was a canopy bed. I still want one, and I still haven’t gotten one. I understand that we lived in a house that didn’t really have the room for one when I was a kid, and now, well, I’m waiting until we own a house. I might not get a canopy, but I do want something similar. Though you don’t realize it when you are a kid, your bed is something of a sanctuary, and unless you travel a lot, it is where you spend a third of your life.

That being said, it can also be said that if you want a canopy bed, you should by all means have one. If you are a child, you are at the mercy of your parents, but if you really want one, tell them you will give up all other gifts to get it, and if they don’t have a lot of money, this might be what happens. If you just mention that you want a canopy bed in passing a few times, they aren’t likely to know you are serious about it. If you want it really bad, you should speak up about it. I didn’t, and I never got one.

If you are an adult and you want a canopy bed, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have one, as long as you have the room for it. I rent so I will be waiting to get one, but even a renter can have one. It’ll just be a little more work to move it if you move, but if you want it; you should go ahead and get it. You have to make sure it is something your spouse is comfortable with through, because they have to sleep in the bed with you every night. If they balk at the idea, make sure you look at a canopy bed together. You are sure to come up with a compromise you can both live with.

I suspect when I get my canopy bed one day, I will want to put some tulle material or mosquito netting over the top. That’s what I wanted as a child, though I don’t want frilly pinks or purples like I would have back then. My canopy bed will have to be something that will make my husband feel at home in it, so I can’t go too girly. That’s quite all right, and as long as I have the feel of what I want, almost anything will do. You don’t have to get the exact bed you wanted as a child, and you may find that you don’t want to. The adult version will fulfill your wish all the same.
